Wi-Fi link adapter

The Neo Geo Pocket Color only knows its link cable. Our adapter plugs straight into the link port and carries that cable connection over Wi-Fi to our own game server, so handhelds anywhere can play together online. The console just thinks it is talking through a link cable.

What it does

• Plugs into the link port, no changes to the console
• Runs on a small battery, about six hours of play, and sleeps when the console is off
• Fast serial link to the console, fast and steady connection to the server
• Reports signal strength and dropouts to the server, so we can tell network trouble from game trouble
• Powers the online co-op of Little Pocket Worlds and our test games

Status

Hand-wired prototypes run every day in our tests. The plug shown above, with the electronics inside, is designed; building the first ones is next.
